While Elon and the Oligarchs plunder and pillage with little concern for who gets hurt in the process, some lawmakers are finally fighting back.
Sure, they’re state legislators in Tennessee.
But, they are at least attempting to put a check on Musk’s barely-checked power to do whatever he wants to the government.
State Senator Jeff Yarbro and State Rep. Jason Powell - both Nashville Democrats - have filed the STOP ELON Act. The legislation would create criminal penalties for anyone who interferes with or stops public benefit payments to Tennessee residents.
“If Elon Musk illegally hurts Tennesseans, he should go to jail regardless of being a trillionaire or whatever and regardless of whether he’s got a permission slip from the president. Whether through malice or incompetence, if he unlawfully blocks our citizens from getting their Social Security checks or reimbursement from Medicaid or Medicare, his vast wealth should be on the table to compensate the people who get hurt,” said Sen. Yarbro.
The move comes at a pretty important time:
NPR reports:
In an internal email shared with NPR, staff [of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau] were instructed to immediately cease much of the bureau's work, including issuing or approving proposed or final rules or guidance, and suspending the effective dates of all final rules that have been issued but have not yet become effective.
Staff were also instructed not to commence or settle enforcement actions, nor to issue any public communications of any type, including research papers.
In addition to gutting a Consumer Bureau that protects everyday Americans from the abuses foisted on them by Big Banks, credit card companies, and other payday predators, Musk and his lackey Trump seem eager to wreak havoc on the Department of Education:
A recent story in the Wall Street Journal details the Administration’s current thinking on the subject:
Trump administration officials are weighing executive actions to dismantle the Education Department as part of the campaign by billionaire Elon Musk and his allies to shrink federal agencies and slash the size of the government workforce.
